Ancestry Detectives will search:

Parish Registers, UK Census Returns, Civil Registration Records, Wills, Court and Manorial Records, Newspaper articles as well as any academic papers written on the local area or population.

Whilst we use every effort to locate your ancestors there are occasions where we draw a blank. This could be because the records have been damaged or destroyed (by damp, mice or even vandalism), sometimes our ancestors 'forgot' to register events such as births and sometimes didn't go through a marriage ceremony so records do not actually exist. The local clergy could also be sloppy with their record keeping and sometimes their writing is pretty much illegible. However, these circumstances are rare and more often than not we are able to trace most of your ancestors back to the late 1700s and early 1800s and often even earlier.

One-to-one tuition

Sometimes just knowing where to begin tracing your ancestors can be bewildering so we also offer one-to-one tuition to get you started on becoming your own ancestry detective! Visit the Ancestry Detectives School page for more details. Buy Now
